Are you a food and beverage professional seeking a supervisory opportunity? Come grow your career with Hotel Grand Pacific. We’re looking for a Maître D’ to help oversee operations in our Pacific Restaurant. This is a non-server role focused on maintaining a pleasant environment and high quality of service for our guests. It’s an exciting time to join our independent 4-star property as we will be completing renovation of our restaurant early this summer.

Shifts may vary between mornings, afternoons and evenings across 7 days a week.

Duties:

  • Welcome and greet patrons according to company standards
  • Book and coordinate table reservations through all channels
  • Organize servers’ sections to ensure smooth operation of the Restaurant
  • Assist servers as needed with setting and bussing tables
  • Monitor orders coming from Kitchen for quality, consistency and presentation
  • Monitor consistency in mixing, measuring and pouring drinks
  • Anticipate guest needs, accommodate requests whenever possible, and act on feedback
  • Update servers on all menu items and special promotions to ensure quality of service
  • Assist with training of new service staff, and coach servers on Hotel expectations and standards
  • Assist with administrative duties as required (scheduling, inventory, etc.)

Qualifications & Abilities:

  • 3 years of food service experience in a restaurant setting
  • Bartending experience and thorough knowledge of local and import wines
  • Good coaching skills (some supervising experience an asset)
  • Food Safe and Serving It Right Certificates required
  • Mixology certificate preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Squirrel POS
  • Advanced knowledge of Open Table
  • Professional demeanour with excellent communication skills
  • WHMIS certificate desired
  • Able to handle cash accurately
  • Comfortable working on your feet for long periods of time
  • Open availability to work more than 30 hours per week, and able to work a flexible schedule

Salary: $21.80 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Victoria, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Experience:

  • Restaurant: 3 years (preferred)
  • Bartending: 2 years (preferred)
  • Supervising: 1 year (preferred)
  • Squirrel POS: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • FoodSafe (preferred)
  • Serving It Right (preferred)
