Hotel Grand Pacific offers art immersion

The Hotel Grand Pacific offers an immersion in the Baroque period with a package featuring the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria’s The Baroque Experience. The Baroque Experience includes three exhibitions: Baroque Masterworks (until Feb 25, 2007), Misshapen Pearl: The Baroque Era (until March 18, 2007) and Peculiar Culture: The Contemporary Baroque (until March 18, 2007).

You have until February 25 to view Baroque Masterworks, twelve gorgeous rare 17th century masterpieces from the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada. The beautiful featured works were painted between 1600 and 1730 by El Greco, Rubens, Vouet, Lievens, Rembrandt and others. As works from this era are often fragile and rarely travel, the exhibition provides a rare and exciting opportunity to see these international treasures.

The Baroque period was an extravagant time of transition and transformation. Misshapen Pearl: The Baroque Era immerses you in Baroque society with an exhibition of furniture, ceramics, tapestries, clothing, paintings and engravings from the period. Drawn primarily from the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria’s own collection, this exhibit includes five fabulous Rembrandt prints.

Peculiar Culture: The Contemporary Baroque explores today’s expressions of the Baroque through the works of artists Luanne Martineau and Jake and Dinos Chapman. These artists combine beauty, perversity, humour and horror to engage the audience.
