Gray whales, Humpback whales, Minke whales, sea lions, harbour seals, aquatic birds, Dalls porpoise and bald eagles are just some of the wildlife seen on a typical adventure.
The waters surrounding southern Vancouver Island are home to three resident pods of killer whales (Orcas). Within these three pods, known as the southern residents, there are approximately ninety whales. Their main diet is salmon and as the salmon runs reach their peaks during the summer months, whale sightings become very frequent.
In addition to these residents there are transient pods of Orcas, which roam the coastal waters of British Columbia and Washington State feeding on marine mammals. The transients will typically travel in smaller pods and will not intermix with the resident population. There are more than 20 transient pods frequenting the local waters throughout the summer season.
